Football

Football is a team sport played between two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each, on a rectangular field with a goal at each end. The objective of the game is to score goals by moving a spherical ball into the opposing team’s goal using any part of the body except the arms and hands, with the exception of the goalkeeper, who is allowed to use their hands within a designated area known as the penalty area.

Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, established by the International Football Association Board (IFAB). The sport is one of the most popular and widely followed in the world, with various professional leagues and international competitions, such as the FIFA World Cup. The game emphasizes skills such as dribbling, passing, shooting, and tactical awareness, as well as teamwork and physical fitness.

While “football” can refer to different sports in various regions (such as American football or Australian rules football), in most of the world, it specifically denotes the sport known as soccer in the United States and Canada. The term “football” itself derives from the combination of “foot” and “ball,” signifying that the game involves a ball manipulated predominantly with the feet.
